Dear Young Undrea,
They say that hindsight is 20/20, and it is.
Which is why I’m writing this letter to you, to encourage your vivacious little spirit and others like you.
You are such an outgoing and happy child, and you constantly surprise your other little friends with such affection and energy. I don’t want you to ever get tired of showing affection; even to those who don’t seem like they need it, because they do. Never allow the world to crush your smile.
You are such a sensitive little girl and that often makes you a target for negativity. Never allow the world to break you simply because they don’t understand you. I don’t want you ever stop caring.
You are such an optimistic young one. And I know that sometimes life (and people!) can throw you a curve ball, which can make you frustrated and confused at times. Please realize that life is filled with both good and bad, the sweet and the sour. I never want you to focus so much on the bad that you neglect to see and appreciate the good.
For many years of your young life you had to endure peer pressure and the very damaging words that were thrown at you. You were so bruised by the constant bullying and that made you withdrawn and deeply depressed for a long time. I wish I could go back in time to comfort you and tell you that even though you felt as if you were drowning, you could recover from those emotional wounds and slowly heal. Never let the world define you. Define yourself!
And lastly, I want to address all of the little women who are currently blooming into young women and to those who are grown women.
No matter our age, we still have that young soul tucked away inside of ourselves. That little whispering voice of our childhood, that young girl who comes out to play every once in a while.
No matter what you have gone through, no matter what scars you bear, please remember your childlike spirit! Never forget that innocence. Never forget that childlike wonder that made every experience sweeter. Everything – I repeat, every single thing – that you have gone through on your journey to (and through) womanhood has made you stronger.
Your life and your path is before you. Embrace it!
